Reading Town Hall to Host Captivating Gaia Events
Reading is set to embark on an awe-inspiring climate journey as the Gaia Earth installation makes its much-anticipated arrival on Saturday 10 June 2023 as part of Reading Climate Festival.
Created by renowned artist Luke Jerram, the artwork will grace the beautiful Victorian Concert Hall in Reading Town Hall captivating residents and visitors and reminding them of how mesmerising and fragile planet earth is.
To celebrate Gaia in Reading, a series of exciting events have been organised to engage and inspire the local community. The following key events celebrate the artwork, explore climate change, and sustainability and experts in their fields will shed light on the challenges we face and the potential solutions we can pursue:
- James Orford Organ Recital: Saturday 10 June - 7.30pm. £10-£15
- Everyday Ways to Save Our Planet In Conversation with TV Meteorologist and University of Reading’s Laura Tobin 13 June - 7pm. Free
- Climate Anxiety workshop at Reading Central Library 14 June - 1pm. Free
- Gentle Yoga and Gaia Gong Bath Journey Thursday 15 June - 1pm. £15
- Empowering Young People to Tackle the Greatest Challenge of their Generation Thursday 15 June – 8pm. Free
- Ray Mears: The World Around Us Friday 16 June - 1pm. £15
- The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra host free family Junk Instrument making sessions Saturday 17 June - 10.30am-12.30pm booking essential, families are then invited along to the Junk Samba Band session and to join the Reading Climate Festival's Parade through Reading Town Centre at 3.30pm – places in the parade can be booked here
- Incredible Edible Reading – find out how to grow your own food Sunday 18 June – Midday. Free

The 7-metre replica of planet Earth, will be on display at Reading's iconic Town Hall from 10-18 June 2023. This stunning installation provides a unique perspective of our planet.
General admission tickets are selling fast with weekend dates sold out. There is good availability during the week 12-16 June, tickets are just £2 for adults with under 14s accompanied by an adult free.
Gaia has been brought to the town by Reading Borough Council, Reading Climate Change Partnership (RCCP), Reading Business Improvement District (part of REDA) and University of Reading.
