Reading Libraries Appeal for ‘Fun Palace’ Ideas

READING Library Service is appealing for event ideas for this year’s ‘Fun Palaces’ day on Saturday 6th October.

Fun Palaces is an ongoing national campaign promoting culture at the heart of every community, and each year offers a weekend of free events and activities – spanning arts, science, craft, tech, digital, heritage and sports – run by and for local communities. Reading Libraries took part in Fun Palaces last October and free activities on offer included a duck race, mask making, decorating a library dragon, balloon animal making sessions and a steam punk themed library takeover. In advance of Fun Palaces 2018, the library team are looking for ideas for this year’s event – in particular activities with a science or arts theme. They are also looking for volunteers from the community to get involved and share their skills and hobbies.

Cllr Sarah Hacker, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation, said:

“I’m delighted we are taking part in Fun Palaces again this year across all Reading libraries. This great event brings the whole community together to share skills and offers free activities for all the family to enjoy. “We’d like as many members of the community to get involved as possible – if you are able to help this year, or if you have a different, fun, interesting hobby and you are able to run a free activity for your local community we would love to hear from you! We are also asking the community for ideas on what activities they’d like to see this year, so please get in touch.” To send in ideas or volunteer to get involved email info@readinglibraries.org.uk
