Lost Library Book Travels from Reading to Paris….. and Back Again

A TRAVEL GUIDE book borrowed from Battle Library has made its own unexpected journey after being found on the Paris Métro and swiftly returned to Reading.

A copy of ‘Top 10 Paris’ was borrowed from the Oxford Road library earlier this summer from a would-be tourist wanting to make the most of their visit to the French capital. However, it was found on Metro Line 1 a few weeks later by eagle-eyed Parisienne who noticed it had a Reading libraries label inside, alongside a contact email address.

They emailed to find out the best way to return the book, and it arrived safely back in Reading less than a week later.

Library staff have contacted the original library user to reassure them the book has been returned.

Cllr Adele Barnett-Ward, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Leisure and Culture said:

“It’s wonderful to see how far our library books can travel, although we do prefer they come back home eventually! It is is a good reminder however that our local libraries are a fantastic resource for anyone planning a summer getaway. From guidebooks to language learning, there’s so much on offer. Just don’t forget to return what you’ve borrowed when you’re back!”

Reading Libraries encourages all holidaymakers to explore their collection of travel guides before heading abroad. Whether its Paris, Prague, or Penzance, there's a book to help you make the most of your trip.
