Essential Maintenance Work at Tilehurst Library in November

Tilehurst Library

TILEHURST LIBRARY will temporarily close for just over two weeks in November for essential maintenance work between 11th and 27th November 2019.

The work will cover improvements to the library’s energy efficiency, including boiler replacement, alongside upgrades to heating systems, wiring and electrics. The nature of the works necessitates the closure of the building and is expected to take approximately 17 days, during which time the library will be unavailable for use by the public. The plan is for the library to close at 3pm on Saturday 9th November and re-open 1pm on Thursday 28th November.

Councillor Karen, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation, said:

“I’m really pleased we are able to put this investment into Tilehurst Library to keep the building running as efficiently as possible for the future. “Unfortunately, due to the nature of these essential works it will mean a temporary closure to ensure the building is fit for purpose. We apologise for any inconvenience for library users, however, exchange dates will be extended and books can also be returned to any of the other Reading libraries or at the book drops outside library branches. The Library Service’s fantastic e-book, e-magazine and e-audio service is available all the time at www.reading.gov.uk/elibrary “We know people value their local libraries, and this work is part of a wider series of improvements planned across several other library branches. It also closely follows after our recent £400K investment in transforming Battle Library into a community hub, so that more people can enjoy what it has to offer.” The work is part of a wider series of improvements across a number of library branches, which will all take place over the next 6 months. The investment is part of the Council’s wider plan to make the best possible use of its buildings, to help reduce running costs and to keep them sustainable for the future.
