Essential Maintenance Work at Palmer Park Library in February

Palmer Park Library

PALMER PARK LIBRARY will temporarily close for just under two weeks for essential maintenance work between Thursday 27th February and Monday 9th March 2020.

The work will cover improvements to the library’s energy efficiency, alongside upgrades to the boiler, heating systems, wiring and electrics. The nature of the works necessitates the closure of the building and is expected to take approximately 10 days, during which time the library will be unavailable for use by the public. The plan is for the library to close at 4pm on Thursday 27th February and re-open at 9am on Tuesday 10th March.

Councillor Karen Rowland, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation, said:

“We are investing in Palmer Park Library to keep the building running as efficiently as possible for the future. This is part of a rolling scheme of investments in our libraries and we recently completed similar successful improvements at Tilehurst Library in November last year and at Caversham Library, in January this year. “Unfortunately, due to the nature of these essential works it will mean a temporary closure to ensure the building is fit for purpose. We apologise for any inconvenience for library users, however, exchange dates will be extended - so no library items will be due during the closure - and books can also be returned or checked out at any of our other wonderful Reading libraries. The Library Service’s fantastic e-book, e-magazine and e-audio service is available all the time at www.reading.gov.uk/elibrary “We are thrilled people use and value their local libraries, and we are pleased to be able to continue to invest in them. This closely follows our recent £400K investment in transforming Battle Library into a community hub, so that more people will enjoy what our libraries have to offer.” The work is part of a series of improvements across a number of library branches and is part of the Council’s wider plan to make the best possible use of its buildings, to help reduce running costs and to keep them sustainable for the future.
