Essential Maintenance Work at Caversham Library in January

Caversham Library

CAVERSHAM LIBRARY will temporarily close for just over two weeks in January for essential maintenance work between Monday 13th and Wednesday 29th January 2020.

The work will cover improvements to the library’s energy efficiency, alongside upgrades to heating systems, wiring and electrics. The nature of the works necessitates the closure of the building , during which time the library will be unavailable for use by the public. The plan is for the library to close at 3pm on Saturday 11th January and re-open at 1pm on Thursday 30th January.

Councillor Karen Rowland, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation, said:

“I’m really pleased we are able to put this investment into Caversham Library to keep the building running as efficiently as possible for the future. This is part of a rolling scheme of investments in our libraries and we recently completed a similar successful improvement at Tilehurst Library in November. “Unfortunately, due to the nature of these essential works it will mean a temporary closure to ensure the building is fit for purpose. We apologise for any inconvenience for library users, however, exchange dates will be extended - so no library items will be due during the closure - and books can also be returned or checked out at any of our other wonderful Reading libraries. The Library Service’s fantastic e-book, e-magazine and e-audio service is available all the time at www.reading.gov.uk/elibrary “We are thrilled people use and value their local libraries, and we are pleased to be able to continue to invest in them. This closely follows our recent £400K investment in transforming Battle Library into a community hub, so that more people will enjoy what our libraries have to offer.” The work is part of a series of improvements across a number of library branches, which will all take place over the next few months. The investment is part of the Council’s wider plan to make the best possible use of its buildings, to help reduce running costs and to keep them sustainable for the future.
