Red warning

Schools advised to close and waste collections cancelled as weather warning changed to red

Reading’s weather warning from the Met Office has this morning, Friday 18 February, been changed to Red.

As a result:

Waste collections

The Council is cancelling waste and recycling collections today. Please do not put your bins out, and if they are already out please get them back in as soon as possible. Some bins were already emptied this morning prior to the weather warning forcing the cancellation of today’s service.

Information will follow on when these collections will be rescheduled.

Schools

The recommendation from both Brighter Futures for Children and Reading Borough Council is that, where possible, all schools and education settings in Reading should close today. Parents should make their own decisions on whether to send children to school, but should check with the school if it will be open.

Re3 recycling centre in Reading

The re3 recycling centre in Reading is also closed for today.

Non-essential travel should be avoided. Please see local media for updates on the storm.
