Register To Vote in Local Elections
RESIDENTS who want to vote in the up and coming Local Borough Elections have until midnight on Friday 12th April 2019 to register to vote. Any application made after that deadline will not be accepted.
The quickest and easiest way to register to vote on 2nd May 2019 is online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Alternatively, local residents can obtain a paper copy of the registration form by contacting Reading’s electoral registration office direct on 0118 937 3717. Every individual is now responsible for registering themselves to vote. This includes young people who are aged 16 and 17, who can vote from their 18th birthday. Poll Cards will be printed on white card and delivered to registered electors from today (28th March). ‘Empty Property’ Poll Cards will be printed on lilac card and will also be sent to households where the Electoral Services team currently does not have anyone registered. The Poll Card will give details of how to contact Electoral Services for a registration form. Again, the deadline to register is midnight on 12th April 2019. Electors who have a Postal Vote in place will have a separate Poll Card printed on pink card. People who want to vote by post in the 2019 Local Borough Elections need to be registered under Individual Electoral Registration. The Electoral Services Team has to receive completed and signed postal vote application forms by 5pm on Monday 15th April 2019 at the latest. Anyone who is unsure whether they are registered should contact the Council’s Electoral Services Team by email on elections@reading.gov.uk. Voters in Thames Ward are also being given notice that there is also an election to fill one casual vacancy taking place in this ward, so they will be able to vote for two candidates in the up and coming Local Elections. Electors are also given notice of changes / information affecting the following polling stations for the 2019 Local Borough Elections:- The Polling Station previously in St George’s Church Hall (now demolished) will again move into St George’s Church (Norcot Ward) which is on the same site and immediately next to the demolished hall.
- Norcot Youth and Community Centre is closed and due to be demolished. The Emergency Planning Vehicle will be based on the same site and used as a temporary Polling Station.
- Southcote Library is now closed and the Polling Station has moved to Southcote Community Centre (Coronation Square).
- South Reading Youth and Community Centre has now changed its name to South Reading Community Hub
- Even though Battle Library will be closed for refurbishment, it will be open on 2nd May 2019 for use as a Polling Station only
