Register to Vote for Local Borough Elections
RESIDENTS who want to vote in the up and coming Local Borough Elections have until midnight on Tuesday 17th April to register to vote. Any application made after midnight on Tuesday 17th April 2018 will not be accepted.
The quickest and easiest way to register to be able to vote on 3rd May 2018 is online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Alternatively, local residents can obtain a paper copy of the registration form by contacting Reading’s electoral registration office direct on 0118 937 3717. Every individual is now responsible for registering themselves to vote. Previously, one person in every household was responsible for registering everyone else who lives at that address. Poll Cards will be printed on white card and delivered to Registered Electors from tomorrow (28th March). ‘Empty Property’ Poll Cards will be printed on lilac and will also been sent to households where the Electoral Services team currently does not have anyone registered. Details are on the Poll Card for them to contact the team for a registration form. Again, the deadline to register is midnight on 17th April 2018. Electors who have a Postal Vote in place will have their Poll Card printed on Pink card. People who want to vote by post in the 2018 Local Borough Elections need to be registered under Individual Electoral Registration. The Electoral Services Team has to receive completed and signed postal vote application forms by 5pm on Wednesday 18th April at the latest. Anyone who is unsure whether they are registered should contact the Council’s electoral registration team by email on elections@reading.gov.uk. Voters in Church, Katesgrove and Kentwood Wards are also being given notice that there are casual vacancies taking place in those Wards, so they will be able to vote for two candidates. Electors are also given notice of changes in the location of the following polling stations for the 2018 Local Borough Elections:- Amersham Youth and Community Centre is now called The Weller Centre (Caversham Ward)
- The Polling Station previously located at Cranbury College, will again move to the replacement Polling Station, which is Emmanuel Methodist Church (Battle Ward)
- The Polling Station previously in St George’s Church Hall (now demolished) will move into St George’s Church (Norcot Ward) which is on the same site and immediately next to the demolished hall.
