Reading Remembers

READING will come together to pay tribute the men and women who sacrificed their lives defending this country, in two separate Remembrance ceremonies.

Remembrance Sunday, the town’s main service and parade, takes place in Reading town centre on Sunday 10th November. Members of the public are invited to attend the Remembrance Service at Reading Minster at 9.30am. There will be readings from Mr James Puxley , Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire, Major Joe English VR, OC C (Berkshire) Company, 7th Battalion, The RIFLES, and the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Paul Woodward. A march through the town centre will then follow the Remembrance Service. The Waterloo Band and Bugles of the 7 Rifles will lead the march, leaving Reading Minster at around 10.15am to the Forbury Gardens. The Remembrance Ceremony at the Forbury War Memorial will include the laying of wreaths and a two-minute silence at 11am. Monday November 11th is Armistice Day and Reading Mayor, Councillor Woodward, will lead a two minute’s silence at Forbury Gardens War Memorial at 11am. At the same time Deputy Mayor of Reading, Councillor David Stevens, will lead a two minutes silence outside Reading Borough Council’s Civic Offices on Bridge Street. The public are welcome to attend either event.

Reading Mayor, Councillor Paul Woodward, said:

“We must never forget the ultimate sacrifice made by our armed forces in defence of the country and those who continue to risk their lives every day.

"I would encourage as many people as possible to join me at the Remembrance Service and march to Forbury Gardens from Reading Minster on Sunday, or at the two minutes silence at Forbury Gardens or outside the Civic Offices at 11am on the Monday, Armistice Day itself.”
