Reading Play Team Settle into New Home in Prospect Park

READING Council’s popular Play Scheme now has a new permanent home in Prospect Park Pavilion.

The Play team, provide play opportunities 0 to 13 year olds, moved into their new base at Prospect Park in April as part of the team’s recent integration with the Council’s leisure team. Previously based at Bennet Road in south Reading, their new base in west Reading benefits access to utilise Prosepct Park’s many facilities and extensive grounds. The team provides a range of services for children and families across Reading. This includes after school childcare and holiday play clubs, 1:1 support for pupils, young carers clubs and playtime support.

Half Term Activities

This coming May half term, the Play team has some exciting fun days on offer at the Outpost (located next to Rivermead) including a survival challenge with den and fire making, marshmallow cooking and shelter building; there are also favourites like Owen’s Animals – animal handling sessions, mini golf, falconry, circus skills, archery, laser guns and more. Cllr Sarah Hacker, Lead Member for Culture and Recreation, said:

“I’m delighted the Reading Play team, who offer such a valuable service for Reading’s children, have settled into their new home at Prospect Park. The pavilion at the park is the ideal base for this service and I’m sure they will make the most of the park’s excellent facilities in the future. In the meantime, be sure to check out the fantastic range of activities on offer over the half term.” The Play team will also be utilising the facilities and surroundings of Prospect Park to offer open sessions to families, sports activities and mini fun events later this year.
