Reading’s foster and kinship carers came together for a night of celebration and recognition last month (21 November), as Reading Borough Council hosted its annual awards ceremony at the town’s vibrant Jazz Café.
The Mayor of Reading, Councillor Dr Alice Mpofu-Coles, presented awards to recognise outstanding commitment and compassion from those who dedicate their lives to looking after children in care.
Awards included multiple service milestone awards, acknowledging those who have fostered with the Council for years; training, support and development awards, for those who are committed to professional development; and the prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Fostering Award, celebrating carers who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, compassion and resilience in their fostering journey.
Entertainment was provided by Julia Titus, a talented local performer, and guests enjoyed a raffle with a variety of prizes donated by local Reading businesses.
Cllr Wendy Griffith, Reading Borough Council’s Lead Councillor for Children, said:
“This special evening was our way of saying thank you and to celebrate the incredible work of our foster and kinship carers.
“The awards not only acknowledge individual achievements but also reaffirm the Council’s commitment to supporting carers as much as possible.
“Every child and young person deserves to have a safe, loving family, and I hope that more people learn about being a foster carer, and will consider making this rewarding and life-changing decision.”
