Reading Council Celebrates ‘Good’ Rating for Extra Care Home from Inspectors

Charles Clore Court Team

CHARLES CLORE COURT Extra Care Housing scheme has once again been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Charles Clore Court in Southcote, is owned and managed by A2 Dominion, with the care provided by Reading Borough Council. There are 47 flats in Charles Clore Court, around 30 of which are used by people with care needs. It offers a selection of self-contained studio, one and two bedroom flats designed to help residents retain as much independence and control of their lives as possible. Residents can continue to enjoy their social pursuits in a safe and secure environment, giving peace of mind to themselves and their families. Extra care schemes are designed to provide a real alternative to residential care for frail and vulnerable older persons. The inspection, which took place on 23rd January 2019, found the Council run service was offering safe, caring, responsive and effective support, combined with quality management. The CQC report highlighted the work of the staff in treating people with dignity and respect. Inspectors said: “People were provided with kind and compassionate care. Consistent care staff built good working relationships with residents. Care staff encouraged people to be as independent as they could be.” One person reflected the views of others when they told inspectors, “This is a lovely place to live. The staff are lovely and you couldn't get more kind and caring 'girls' (care staff).” A family member told the CQC, “I have 100% trust in the service they are very, very caring.”

Tony Jones, Lead Councillor for Adult Social Care, said:

“I’m delighted to hear the Charles Clore Court Care team has received another well-earned ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission. The rating is testament to the hard work of all the staff, who provide caring and dignified support.” The Extra Care Housing Scheme is also now home to the Council’s Discharge to Assess (D2A) service, which moved to its new home at Charles Clore Court in early 2019 from its previous home at the Willows in south Reading. The service evaluates the needs of people leaving hospital and aims to prevent further hospital admissions as well as helping people transition back into their own homes and regain independence. By co-locating the service within the extra care environment at Charles Clore Court, the service can now better promote recovery and independence and deliver better outcomes for clients.
