Palmer Park Gym Benefits from New Equipment

Palmer gym's new equipment

PALMER Park Gym has benefited from a 35K investment in 28 new pieces of gym equipment this December.

The Council run gym in east Reading offers the very popular workout facility, with panoramic views of beautiful parkland. The equipment is set out in distinct areas for the various stations, including cardio, fixed weights, free weights, spin and stretch areas. The new equipment includes treadmills, exercise bikes and spin bikes which were installed at the beginning of December. The gym has also received a makeover. The room has been deep cleaned, re-painted and rearranged to optimise the space available. The additional £35K investment at the gym was approved in September. The work is part of a major £786k investment across Reading’s Parks, approved Council’s Housing, Neighbourhoods and Leisure Committee in March 2018, running to 2020, on recreational areas across the borough. The majority of these schemes will be funded from contributions from developers secured via Section 106 agreements.

Cllr Graeme Hoskin, Reading’s Lead Member for Sport, said:

“The revamped gym is looking fantastic. We want residents of all ages to benefit from using our sports facilities, and I hope this will encourage many more to do so. Anyone making a New Year’s resolution to get fit will appreciate the great new equipment available! "The park has also benefited from a significant investment in its artificial turf pitches, which are looking great. This is part of a larger investment across Reading’s parks, running until 2020. I’m delighted we are in a position to deliver such an extensive plan of improvements across Reading’s green spaces, with some great work also recently completed at Prospect and Cintra parks. “Where we live, and the quality of our immediate environment has a huge impact on our quality of life and wellbeing. This level of investment shows we are committed to keeping the town clean, safe, green and active.”
