Normal Parking Restrictions Continue
- Residents and visitors reminded that normal parking restrictions continue this month
- Parking enforcement will continue, particularly around schools and residents parking zones
RESIDENTS and visitors to Reading are being reminded that normal parking restrictions will continue over the next month, including parking enforcement.
With all schools and other places of education remaining open throughout the new national restrictions, and more people working from home, pressure on limited parking spaces in Reading will continue. The Council’s civil enforcement officers will therefore maintain their usual activity, particularly around school settings and residents parking zones around the town. Throughout the pandemic, civil enforcement officers have been following Covid-secure guidelines whilst out on patrol, including adhering to ‘hands, face and space’ guidance. Those working practices will continue over the weeks to come. Cllr Tony PageTony Page, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said:
“We know there is always pressure on the limited parking places available in the town, and we fully expect that to continue throughout the new national restriction period.“Civil enforcement officers will continue to operate in a Covid secure way, as they have done so throughout the pandemic.” Car parks across Reading remain open. Reading Borough Council is continuing to support Royal Berkshire Hospital staff with parking available at Queens Road Car Park for the duration of the ongoing COVID 19 response. Queen’s Road Car Park is a short walk from the RBH. By making parking spaces available, the Council hopes this will help NHS staff who are asked to avoid travelling by public transport, to get to and from work. The car park works on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology which allows NHS staff to enter the car park and park without having to take and pay for a ticket.“The big difference between now and March of course, is that schools across Reading remain open. Many schools are located in residential areas and it is important we continue to enforce in these areas in order to protect parking places for over 17,000 householders within the residents parking zones, many of whom will also now be working from home. There were additionally some issues in the Spring lockdown with people parking dangerously on pavements, and that is something we need to avoid.
