Major Improvements for Long Barn Lane and Southcote Lane
MAJOR works to resurface Long Barn Lane and Southcote Lane will take place over the coming weeks. The majority of works on Southcote Lane will be carried out during the Easter school break to minimise disruption.
Resurfacing work on Long Barn Lane, between Basingstoke Road and Northumberland Avenue, will start on Monday 25th March. It will take 2 weeks to complete, within a 3 week window. The road will be closed as and when required during the working day and a no parking restriction will be in place between 8.00 am to 6.00pm. Signed diversions will be via Basingstoke Road in both directions. Work on Southcote Lane between Coronation Square and Virginia Way roundabout will begin on Wednesday 27th March and will take 3 weeks to complete, within 5 week period. Again, the road will also be closed as and when required during the working day and a no parking restriction in place between 8.00 am to 6.00pm. Signed diversions will be via the A4 in both directions. Work on Southcote Lane, between Monks Way and Circuit Lane roundabout, will begin on Monday 8th April and will take 2 weeks to complete. The road will be closed as and when required during the working day and a no parking restriction between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. Signed diversions will via the Bath Road in both directions. During this phase of works on Southcote Lane, because of the traffic layout, the one way restriction on Silchester Road and Faircross Road will be temporarily suspended with a parking restriction during the working day to allow two way traffic. For all resurfacing works on both Long Barn Lane and Southcote Lane, access will be maintained for residents and businesses when it is safe to do so. Advance notice boards will be erected across all site and letters will be delivered to those affected before works begin. Cllr Tony PageCouncillor Tony Page, Reading Borough Council’s Lead Member for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, said:
“Work to resurface Long Barn Lane and large sections of Southcote Lane follow on from the Council’s resurfacing of Mayfair last Autumn. I am certain these improvements will be welcomed by both residents and road users alike. They are also in addition to the annual summer resurfacing programme which will take place later this year. “The resurfacing of large sections of Southcote Lane has been timed to take place over the Easter holiday break, in order to minimise disruption for people who regularly use the road. We understand these works will cause some short term inconvenience but would ask all residents and road users to bear with us while these important improvements take place.” The £350,000 cost of resurfacing Long Barn Lane and Southcote Lane will be funded as part of the additional local highways maintenance grant awarded to Reading Borough Council by the Department for Transport this financial year.
