  • Tickets now available for a joyful evening of uplifting music at the Mayor of Reading’s charity fundraiser
  • An evening of top live performances at the Reading Town Hall will raise money for two worthy local charities

A joyful evening of uplifting live music is being promised at the Mayor of Reading’s charity fundraising concert at the Town Hall in May.

A Celebration of Sound will bring together talented local artists performing a variety of music including jazz, blues, gospel, original compositions and popular favourites.

The concert on Friday 1 May will be raising money for the Mayor’s chosen charities, Readifood and Utulivu Women’s Group.

The special evening will feature the award-winning Reading Community Gospel Choir which has been delivering powerful, soul-stirring performances to audiences for nearly 20 years.

Vocalist Julia Titus will bring the spirit and sound of the blues and jazz to the stage as Ma Bessie, and musician and composer Pete Doyle, known for creating rich, layered live soundscapes, will be demonstrating his considerable musical talent. Pete won the Local Hero title in the Pride of Reading Awards 2025 for his considerable community work, including the creation of Reading Rock Academy for young people.

The audience will also be treated to performances by the Ukrainian Kryla Choir and Reading-based poet Serena Vanderpuye. More special guests will be announced soon.

Proceeds from the evening will go to Readifood, which provides help to people in Reading facing food poverty and financial hardship, and to Utulivu Women’s Group which offers support, connection and empowerment to women in the local community.

Mayor of Reading Cllr Alice-Mpofu Coles said:

A Celebration of Sound promises to be a wonderful evening of uplifting live music, community spirit and local talent.

I am very excited about the amazing artists we have performing who will help to create a memorable night filled with music and hope in the magnificent setting of the Concert Hall in Reading Town Hall.

“As well as enjoying an amazing evening of live entertainment, everyone attending will help to support and raise awareness of two truly worthwhile causes which make such a difference to communities in Reading.”

A Celebration of Sound – the Mayor’s Charity Fundraiser, will be at Reading Town Hall on Friday 1 May, 7pm, and tickets are priced at £18.50 adults and £13.50 under 16s. Family tickets for two adults and two children are available at £50.
