  • Fun new dinosaur trail on offer for families in Reading this summer
  • Children can hunt for ten dinosaur eggs by scanning QR codes on special window stickers

This summer, Reading residents can step back in time without leaving their hometown.

From 16 July to 31 August, people of all ages are invited to embark on an augmented reality safari that brings prehistoric giants to life in Prospect Park and Cowsey Woodlands, Whitley Wood.

Hunt for ten dinosaur eggs by scanning QR codes on special window stickers. Each discovery reveals fascinating dinosaur facts and allows you to meet one of our prehistoric friends through augmented reality. The magic can be captured with photos and videos, and once all ten eggs have been found, a digital prize is up for grabs.

This interactive adventure gets everyone outdoors while boosting daily steps and expanding dinosaur knowledge. You can visit the dinosaurs in any order you choose and at your own pace, making the trail a perfect day out for all ages.

Councillor Rachel Eden, Lead Member for Education and Public Health said:

“I’m delighted that the Council will be offering this free dinosaur safari to Reading families this summer.  I hope our young people – and maybe some of those less young  - will enjoy this fun way of learning in our beautiful green space and spending time together.”

There is no app to download or sign-up required, so whether you're a dinosaur enthusiast or simply looking for a unique way to explore Reading's open spaces, this prehistoric adventure will be a fun activity for all.

Don't forget to tag @readingcouncil when you share your photos and videos.

About High Street Safari:

High Street Safari trails work by utilising QR codes, without the need for players to download or sign up to anything. The trail consists of 10 vinyl window characters with QR codes that local businesses, as well as cultural and public venues, will host.

Families will be able to start the trail by scanning any of the characters. For families on the trail they will be able engage with the experience by scanning each character’s QR code and learning their names and stories and seeing them in AR. Younger children will delight in spotting the cute and colourful characters in window corners and older (and grown-up children) will engage by learning more about them.  Everyone will have fun taking silly selfies in augmented reality. They can do this in their own time and pace, if it takes a week it doesn’t matter.

After spotting all 10 characters, families will be rewarded with a free, e-book that concludes the story.
