Invitation to the Civic Carol Service 2019

AN EVENING of carols and lessons retelling the story of the Nativity is being hosted by Reading Minster on Thursday 12th December.

The Mayor of Reading Cllr Paul Woodward is inviting members of the public to join him at the Civic Carol Service in St Mary’s Butts at 6.30pm. The free service will include a selection of favourite carols and lessons read by special guests as well as a dazzling performance from The Magical Christmas Multi School Choir. Pupils from St Mary & All Saints CE Primary School, South Lake Primary, All Saints Junior School and sixth-formers from The Bulmershe School, conducted by leading local musical director Sarah Sharp, will perform a selection of songs from seasonal film favourite Love Actually. The Mayor and representatives from Reading Refugee Support Group, Reading Family Aid and South Central Ambulance Charity will be among guest readers retelling the story of the Nativity. The excellent Reading A440 Choir will be performing traditional carols. Reverend Canon Stephen Pullin will welcome the congregation and invite members to join him for mulled wine, soft drinks and mince pies after the service. Drinks have been kindly donated by Bills Restaurant.

Mayor of Reading, Cllr Woodward, said:

“The Civic Carol Service is a much loved event in Reading’s Christmas calendar. It is a great opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the festive season. “This year we have some wonderful guests reading and a very special festive performance from the Magical Christmas Multi School Choir. I hope to see the Minster full of people enjoying the special service and joining in with some festive favourites.”
