Free springtime Dr Bike sessions in the community

  • Families can have their bikes checked for free at five different community hubs and the town centre
  • Dr Bike team will check and tune-up cycles and undertake free minor repairs.

Families are being offered the chance to have their bicycles checked for free at community hubs around the borough.

The Dr Bike team will be travelling around Reading to offer free bike maintenance checks, basic fixes and give safety tips between Monday 28 April and Friday 2 May.

The free sessions support the Council’s aim to encourage more people to cycle to help reduce air pollution and improve the health and wellbeing of Reading residents.

Members of the Avanti Cycling team will be holding Dr Bike pop-up sessions where they will check and tune-up bicycles, undertake free minor repairs and diagnose more complex issues. No appointment is necessary.

Visitors can also find out about other free cycling activities on offer, including adult cycle training for beginners and rusty riders

Cllr John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Climate Strategy and Transport, said:

“This is a great time of year to get out and about on two-wheels and the Dr Bike sessions are an excellent opportunity to check that your and your children’s bicycles are in good condition.

“The Avanti Cycling team will be offering to check and tune-up bicycles, carry out free basic repairs and give general advice about cycling in Reading.

“Dr Bike sessions in the town centre are very popular and these pop-up events in the community will be really handy for families to drop into with no appointment necessary.”
