
Free bike checks for the summer holidays
- Families can have their bikes checked for free at six different locations around the borough
- Dr Bike team will tune-up cycles and undertake free minor repairs
Families are being offered the chance to get their bikes fit for the summer holidays with free cycle checks across the borough.
The Dr Bike team will be travelling around Reading to offer free bike maintenance checks, basic fixes and give safety tips between Monday 30 June and Thursday 10 July.
The free sessions support the Council’s aim to encourage more people to cycle to help reduce air pollution and improve the health and wellbeing of Reading residents.
Members of the Avanti Cycling team will be holding Dr Bike pop-up sessions where they will tune-up bicycles, undertake free minor repairs and diagnose more complex issues. No appointment is necessary.
Visitors can also find out about other free cycling activities on offer, including bike maintenance workshops, adult cycle training for beginners and rusty riders,
The Dr Bike sessions are:
- Monday 30 June: South Reading Leisure Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
- Thursday 3 July: Outside Sainsbury’s, Broad Street, 11am-2pm
- Thursday 3 July: Dee Space community centre, 4.30-6.30pm
- Friday 4 July: Coley Park Community Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
- Monday 7 July: Rivermead Leisure Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
- Thursday 10 July: Southcote Community Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
Regular Dr Bike pop-up sessions are held outside Sainsbury’s in Broad Street, Reading, between 11am-2pm, on the first Thursday of the month through the year.
Cllr John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Climate Strategy and Transport, said:
“This is a great opportunity for families to have their bikes checked out to make sure they are fully ready for a summer of cycling.
“The expert Avanti Cycling team will tune-up bicycles, carry out free basic repairs and give general advice about cycling in Reading.
“Dr Bike sessions are very popular in the town centre and these pop-up events in the community will be really convenient for families to drop into with no appointment necessary.”
