First Disability Pride Event in Reading Celebrating Inclusivity and Empowerment
Reading comes together to celebrate its first ever Disability Pride event next week which aims to foster a sense of unity among Reading’s disabled community, their families, friends and supporting organisations.
July is national Disability Pride month which strives to challenge societal perceptions, dismantle stereotypes, and promote acceptance and equality for disabled people.
Reading’s own vibrant disabled community will be celebrated at an inaugural event which takes place on Saturday 8 July, between 11am-3pm on Broad Street.
People visiting can look forward to a fun-filled event with inspiring performances, from singers Rona Topaz and Miles, a comedy set from Helen Bryant and a theatrical production from Rank & File. There will also be stalls offering information on their organisations and activities from Me2Club, Caroline Streatfield and Fab4all.
Reading Council Leader, Councillor Jason Brock, said:
"Saturday’s celebrations on Broad Street will be the first time Disability Pride has been hosted in our town and it is an ideal opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of disabled people across Reading. This event is not just about awareness – it is about pride, empowerment, embracing our diverse abilities, and our unique individuality.
“Disability is not a limitation, but rather an integral part of who we are as individuals and as a community. Everyone is invited to join in this celebration of inclusivity, acceptance, and unity."
The Disability Pride Event on Saturday 8 July in Reading welcomes all residents of all abilities, ages, and backgrounds.
