ARTHUR NEWBERY PARK, one of Reading’s oldest parks in west Reading, has benefited from the arrival of a giant play truck this month, in good time for the school holidays.

The climbing frame truck, complete with side slide, has been installed in the sand area of the play park and complements the existing equipment, including the giant Pirate Ship that was added in 2016. The new climbing frame, which is suitable for children between 2 and 8 years of age, is packed full of different play opportunities. The cost of the new play equipment, along with installation and specialist surfacing is approximately £18K. The work is part of a major £786K investment across Reading’s parks. The majority of these schemes, including this improvement, will be funded from contributions from developers secured via Section 106 agreements.

Cllr Sarah Hacker, Reading’s Lead Member for Culture, Heritage and Recreation, said:

“We want residents of all ages to enjoy using and to benefit from our open spaces, and I hope the improvements at Arthur Newbery Park, including this fantastic climbing truck that I’m certain the local children will love, will encourage many more to do so.”
