FIFTEEN local choirs will compete in the grand final of the Mayor of Reading’s Let’s Sing competition 2023.
Seven junior and eight community choirs will take to the Hexagon stage on Friday 24 March to battle it out for the Let’s Sing trophy. In the school choir line-up: Abbey Junior School's Chamber Choir, The Bulmershe Ensemble, St Michael's School Choir, The ABCs (The Abbey Barbershop Collection), Calcot School Choir, English Martyrs School Choir, and Highdown School Choir. The community choirs are Cantata Conviva, Kryla, Vocalese, Weller Voices, Time To Sing Choir, Barbarettes, Readiophonics, and the Wargrave Community Choir.
Tickets for the Let’s Sing final on 24 March at 6:30pm can now be purchased via the What’s On Reading website. Priced at £14, concessions £8.50 or family tickets: www.whatsonreading.com/venues/hexagon/whats-on/lets-sing-reading.
Returning to the Hexagon for the first time since 2020, the contest will again raise money for Mayor’s chosen charities. This year the selected charities are Parenting Special Children, Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality (ACRE), and The Sue Ryder, Duchess of Kent Hospice.
The evening, hosted by ITV Meridian’s Mel Bloor, will feature performances from all 15 choirs and an exciting musical interval performance by Damien A. Passmore.
A winner will be crowned from each category, and the night's overall winner will be presented with a special Let’s Sing trophy by the Mayor.
Cllr Rachel Eden, Mayor of Reading, said:
“We have been blown away by the choir entries for this year’s Let’s Sing, my fellow judges and I certainly have our work cut out to whittle all of the brilliant entries down.
“I’d like to encourage people to buy a ticket to the final at the Hexagon on the 24 March, and show your support for some of the wonderful local talent we are lucky to have in Reading, all while raising money for local causes very close to my heart.”
