Celebrating with biscuit-themed fun for Children’s Festival 2022

READING’S much-loved Children’s Festival has announced its fun-packed, three-week programme of events and activities in celebration of the festival’s 33rd birthday, between 14 May and 5 June.

This year’s celebration gets underway with the Forbury Fiesta in the Forbury Gardens on Saturday 14 May, with a giant tea party in celebration of Huntley and Palmer’s 200th anniversary. The host of fabulous entertainment and fun includes The Mad Hatter’s biscuit party and parade, the ‘Larger than Life’ circus and theatre workshops, flag making, face painting, storytimes, and much more.

The festivities are set to continue across the borough throughout the following weeks. Reading’s libraries are hosting a variety of free sessions, from crafting for the Platinum Jubilee, to planting and decorating your own flowerpot, and making your own unicorn! In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, take part in the royal-themed augmented reality (AR) Jubilee Beacon Trail. Find seven magical characters on a day trip from Buckingham Palace, collect digital stamps, and take selfies with some AR characters. 14 May – 5 June: jubileebeacontrail.com

In partnership with the MERL, ‘Museum’s, My Way’ are sessions for neurodiverse visitors of all ages, developed with Autism Berkshire. This session on 30 May is themed around ‘Biscuits and Food’, and includes sensory backpacks and ear defenders, reduced volume of gallery interactive sounds, and break out spaces. The popular Guyatts Fair returns to Prospect Park between 13 – 15 and 19 – 22 May with a variety of rides and games for families and children of all ages.
