95% of Reading students offered preferred secondary school place
- Admissions figures revealed on secondary school National Offer Day 2026
- All Reading pupils offered a secondary school place for the 2026/27 school year
- Majority placed at first-choice school
Almost all Reading parents (95%) who applied for a secondary school place for their child have been offered one of their preferred schools this September.
All 1,794 pupils making the transition to secondary school have a place for the 2026/27 school year, with Reading Borough Council placing 1,311 (73%) of these at their first-choice school.
A total of 89% of students received their first or second choice, and the percentage of students not allocated any of their preferences, but still offered a place in a Reading school, was just 5% (83 pupils).
Cllr Rachel Eden, Lead Councillor for Education, said: “It is great that we have been able to offer so many of our children a place at one of their preferred schools again this year.
“Credit goes to our Admissions team, which works hard to make sure all children are allocated a space, and that the vast majority of these are at their first-choice school.
“Good luck to all pupils starting a new school this September. We hope you enjoy every minute and make the most of your time in secondary education.”
