13 Residential Roads and Mayfair to be Resurfaced Next Month
THIRTEEN residential and minor roads across Reading will be the next to benefit from the council’s annual resurfacing programme, which continues next week.
The work on residential streets begins on Thursday October 4th. It follows on from Reading Borough Council’s resurfacing of 12 sections of main roads across the town in the summer. Weather permitting, the roads will be resurfaced by Sunday October 7th. Road markings and raising of any iron works would follow under localised traffic management. The full list of roads to be resurfaced is below. Advance notices will be in place in the days before work commences on any road. Notification letters will also be delivered to nearby residents and businesses affected, detailing the timing and duration of the works. All roads will be closed to carry out the works and signed diversions will be in place where possible. Residents will be allowed access by contractors when it is safe to do so. Works will generally start at 8am and will finish by 5pm. More than one road will be surfaced each day, which means start and finish times on each road will vary. Cllr Tony PageCllr Tony Page, Lead Councillor for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport at Reading Borough Council, said:
“Main roads obviously bear the brunt of the volume of traffic using roads in Reading, but there is also a need to repair residential streets showing the worst damage. “Local residential streets and minor roads will be the next to benefit from the Council’s annual resurfacing programme. As always, I’d like to thank local residents for their patience whilst these important improvements take place. Advanced notices will be in place in the days before work begins.” In all instances there will be temporary parking restrictions in place on each road so the works can be carried out as quickly and safely as possible. Next month the Council will also be carrying out repairs and resurfacing on Mayfair, between Halls Road and Park Lane. The existing surface dressing has been detaching from the concrete surface and is in need of repair. The works to remedy and replace the tarmac surface, and to repair and seal the concrete joints, will begin on Monday 15th October. They will take up to 2 weeks to complete. The road will be closed between Halls Road and Park Lane and signed diversions will be in place whilst the works are being carried. No Waiting at Any Time parking restrictions will be in place for the duration. The contractor will be working Monday to Saturday between 8.00 am to 5.00 pm each day. Advance notices will be in place and letters will be delivered to nearby residents and businesses affected, detailing the timing and duration of the works.Notes To Editor:
